Iloilo City develops Covid-19 database

The Iloilo City Government is developing a database to manage updates on the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.

The city is a recipient of initiative of National Resilience Council (NRC) collaboration between the public and private sectors in advancing science-based solutions to various challenges of disaster resilience to enhance capacities.

The NRC project, undertaken since June, conducted a six-day training aimed at producing Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping that has the ability to capture and analyze data related to Covid-19.

“We map out the city where you can see its barangays, where the quarantine facilities are located in that area, and you can identify if how many PUMs (persons under monitoring) and PUIs (patients under investigation) are there,” said Franco Anthony Agudo, Statistician III of City Planning and Development Office.

“Another platform was introduced, the local epidemic curve, a graph showing the new Covid-19 cases. This database is the basis for the comparison of the increase or decrease of infected individuals as well as case doubling time,” he added.

Preparations and preventive measures have been based on data available.

The city can accommodate 180-bed capacity for both Diamond Jubilee Hall and St. Therese MTCC Hospital as isolation facilities. Schools have been also converted into quarantine facilities for the influx of returning residents.

There are a total of 724 beds of 17 hotels that serve as quarantine centers.

“Aside from the limited facilities, there is increasing number of LSIs (locally stranded individuals) and OFWs (overseas Filipino workers) who are returning. We are trying to do our best for the safety of the city — we have our active monitoring team for LSIs and OFWs coming in,” Agudo said.

“Everything on the platform will be put together in our future command center, the ICare (Iloilo City Action Response and Emergency). This project will be a big help to improve the resiliency of our city,” he added. (PR)
