NRC initiates dialogue for partnerships with Mandaue City
The National Resilience Council (NRC) had a courtesy meeting with Mandaue City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) Head, Mr. Buddy Alain Ybañez, on 6 Feb 2024. An initial discussion in preparation for the recently held ceremonial signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), as well as the next steps to be taken for the resilience journey of the city were facilitated.
With the NRC’s whole-of-society approach, Mandaue City is one of the adopted cities under the NRC’s Adopt-A-City Initiative, with Vivant Foundation Inc. (VFI) and Visayan Electric Company (VECO) being the private sector partners for the resilience investments, while the University of San Carlos will serve as the academic partner by bringing in their local expertise in resilience programs and research.
Led by Dean Rosana Ferolin of the School of Engineering, USC introduced their current resilience efforts through their academic courses and partnerships. Established in 1935, USC is a private, Catholic, research, and higher education institution administered by the Society of the Divine Word (SVD) missionaries in the province of Cebu. The business meeting between the NRC, USC and VFI provided a alignment between parties on the capacity development agenda for resilience under the said initiative.
The Adopt-A-City Initiative of the NRC involves engaging key private sector partners in supporting the 3-year Leadership for Resilient LGU Program, which aims to strengthen the leadership and governance capacities of local government units (LGUs) to achieve human, economic, infrastructure, and environmental resilience.
