Mandaue Exploratory Engagement for Adopt-A-City

LOOK: National Resilience Council (NRC)  Strengthens Contextualized Approach through Adopt-A-City (AAC) initiative.

The NRC fellows, Dr. Gregory Tangonan and Dr. Emma Porio, met with stakeholders from the University of San Carlos- Water Resources Center (USC-WRC), Mandaue City Disaster Risk Management Office (MDRRMO), Mandaue City Comprehensive National High school (MCCNHS), and the Desalination plant in Cordova from March 14 to 15, 2024. The visits explored how science and technology can inform potential synergies of climate and disaster resilience actions specifically on the water risk landscape among stakeholders in the government, private sector, academic research institutions, and communities of practice.

The NRC, City Government of Mandaue, University of San Carlos, Vivant Foundation, Inc., and Visayan Electric Co., signed a Memorandum of Understanding last February 8, 2024  for the NRC’s Resilient Local Government Unit Program (RLGUP) through the Adopt-a-City Initiative.

The Adopt-a-City Initiative facilitates investments in reducing exposure and vulnerability, reshaping the climate and disaster risk landscapes. It also aims to strengthen local government units’ leadership and governance capacities to achieve human, economic, infrastructure, and environmental resilience.
