Ormoc City is often celebrated for its natural beauty and vibrant culture—but beyond its scenic charm lies a powerful story of resilience, innovation, and transformation. At the 2025 RLGUP Colloquium, Hon. Lucy Torres-Gomez presented this inspiring journey through her talk titled “Project Transform: The Ormoc Story.”
In her presentation, Mayor Torres-Gomez highlighted the city’s major interventions in areas such as solid waste management, a robust tree-growing program, the regulation of single-use plastics, energy efficiency, and the formulation of a sustainable energy transition roadmap—all of which reflect Ormoc’s forward-thinking environmental governance. Quoting her statement, “In Ormoc, we understand that we are only as strong as the environment in which we live. I am very proud to say that because of Project Transform, Ormoc City is always on track in terms of environmental stewardship and resilience,” Mayor Torres-Gomez emphasized how environmental integrity is central to the city’s vision for the future.
The discussion not only showcased innovative local governance but also painted a vivid portrait of a thriving, resilient community. Ormoc stands today as a model of how a city can rise through challenges, embrace sustainable solutions, and turn vision into reality—all while preserving the beauty and vitality of its surroundings.
