The Philippine Delegation, led by Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), actively participated in the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GPDRR) held from June 1 to 6, 2025, in Geneva, Switzerland. Joining Secretary Solidum were representatives from the National Resilience Council (NRC), including Hans T. Sy, chairperson for the Private Sector; Vice Admiral Alexander P. Pama (Ret.), Resilience Advisor; Liza B. Silerio, Treasurer; and Silvestre Z. Barrameda, Jr., Executive Director. Their presence underscored the critical role of public-private partnerships and whole-of-society collaboration in advancing disaster risk reduction (DRR) both nationally and globally.
During the forum, Executive Director Barrameda presented NRC’s initiatives on Disaster Risk Financing (DRF), focusing on the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (LDRRMF) and its role in empowering local government units (LGUs). He also highlighted the Adopt-A-City Program, which leverages private sector investment for local resilience, and introduced the Resilient Local Government Unit Program (RLGUP)—a flagship effort aligning local governance with global DRR frameworks. Barrameda emphasized the importance of science-based, evidence-informed investments and localized models that can inspire resilience efforts globally.
The Philippines’ active participation at GPDRR 2025, supported by the NRC alongside government and private sector partners, reaffirms the council’s pivotal role in advancing innovative, collaborative disaster resilience strategies—setting a strong example for vulnerable nations worldwide striving to build safer, more sustainable communities.
