The National Resilience Council (NRC) co-organized the Earthquake Summit 2026, themed “Engineering Resilience: Building to Last,” led by the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), in partnership with Makati Business Club (MBC), ARISE Philippines, the Philippine Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF), and the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP).
The Earthquake Summit was organized into two key components: the Forum and the Dialogue. The Forum focused on scientific advancements and risk data that support risk-informed decision-making and guide investments in earthquake-resilient infrastructure. It emphasized the importance of protecting and maintaining the functionality of critical lifelines and essential services during and after disasters.
The Dialogue focused on strengthening public-private partnerships and identifying concrete commitments toward earthquake resilience. It highlighted the role of private enterprises in the Greater Manila Area (GMMA) in ensuring the continuity of essential public services, including power, water, communications, and transportation. Discussions also covered enterprise risk management, supply chain resilience, exposure to geopolitical pressures, and the vulnerabilities and resilience of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
Bringing together representatives from the private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs), government agencies, and embassies, the Earthquake Summit served as a preparatory platform toward the launch of a National Public-Private Partnership for Earthquake Resilience. This initiative aims to strengthen collaboration, ensure continuity of essential services, and promote coordinated action in addressing seismic risks.
Inclusivity remained a key consideration throughout the Summit, particularly in recognizing the vital role of the private sector in supporting national and local resilience efforts.
Through strengthened partnerships and shared commitments, the Earthquake Summit 2026 marks an important step toward building a safer, stronger, and more resilient Philippines, where every sector can contribute to preparedness, continuity, and long-term resilience.
