Champions in Barangay Resilience, recognized by the Local Government of Tiwi!

The Municipality of Tiwi celebrated a major milestone in its resilience journey as Barangays Cale, Oyama, and Cararayan were recognized as the Top 3 Resilient Barangays under the Barangay Resilience BINGO Scorecard (BRBS), which aims to assess and verify the barangay’s disaster risk resilience initiatives. These barangays demonstrated exemplary leadership and action in disaster risk reduction and community preparedness, earning their place as official members of the Tiwi Resilience Council.

To support their continued efforts, each barangay received in-kind assistance aligned with their resilience action plans — including early warning equipment, capacity-building activities, and specialized training. These resources aim to strengthen local systems and ensure long-term impact at the grassroots level.

The recognition was a key highlight of the National Resilience Council’s (NRC) three-day visit to Tiwi from August 11 to 13, which also included a Systems Thinking Workshop engaging the expanded Resilience Council and a diverse group of new multi-sector partners. The session fostered a deeper understanding of systemic risks, interdependencies, and the practical application of the Resilient Local Government System Scorecard (RLGSS) to local planning and decision-making.

The visit concluded with a courtesy and update meeting with the newly elected Mayor of Tiwi, where NRC presented the current progress of the municipality’s resilience initiatives and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening local governance for disaster risk reduction.

Through this collaborative effort, Tiwi continues to build momentum toward a more adaptive and resilient future — with empowered barangays leading the way and strong partnerships ensuring sustainability.
