CDRA Workshop for Siargao

Last November 2023, the National Resilience Council, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, and Coastal Cities at Risk PH, conducted its Climate and Disaster Risk Assessment (CDRA) Workshop for the island of Siargao in pursuit of a more risk-informed and resilient local government unit.

Attended by the staff from the DENR, both from the central office and the Caraga Regional Office, as well as the municipal resilience teams, the participants underwent a series of sessions and activities geared towards assessing their climate and non-climate impact drivers, exposed elements, and vulnerabilities that will help determine their risks.

Apart from determining risks, CDRA helps the locality to reduce its loss and damages in times of calamities. It is also expected to find its way in the preparations of the local development plans – mainstreaming climate change and disaster risk in comprehensive land use planning. Diverse tools and approaches, specifically GeoRisk PH and Hazard Hunter, were utilized to enhance the thoroughness of risk assessment for the LGU.

The island of Siargao is part of the National Resilience Council’s Project TRANSFORM which integrates the resilience and sustainability program of the DENR and engages the whole-of-society approach in implementing programs to alleviate poverty, enhance community resilience, and promote public-private partnerships.
