LOOK: Climate, Young People, Community, and the Arts of the TECHNOLOGIES FOR ANTICIPATORY ACTION: Innovations for Climate and Disaster Resilience Exhibit and Conference

For the last day of the 3-day Exhibit and Conference, focus is given on the intersections between the youth, community, and arts in climate action.

With Ms. Jessica Dator-Bercilla, Science Resilience Fellow of the NRC, as the Master of Ceremony, she introduced Mr. Silvestre Barrameda Jr., Executive Director of the National Resilience Council, and Dr. Laura Cabochan of Jungle Gym to provide the Welcoming Remarks.

To share their wisdom on Community-Based Arts and Tools for Resilience, presentations were given by:

– Clarissa Mijares of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology (DSA) in the Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU)
– Precy Lisa Labsan, President of Integrated Community Food Program (ICFP) – Disiplina Bignay, Valenzuela City
– Ms. Maria Anna R. Ignacio, Advisor of Kabuhayan sa Ganap na Kasarinlan Credit & Savings Cooperative (KASAGANA-KA/KCOOP)
– Ms. Cauchie Garcia, Deputy Executive Director of Peace Equity Foundation (PEF)

Giving a glimpse of the Master of Disaster Risk and Resilience (MDRR) Program of ADMU, the graduates Phoenicia dela Merced, Rachelle Anne Miranda, and Zacarias Daniel Baricuatro shared their insights and contributions in the field of climate and disaster resilience.

For the conclusion of the event, Dr. Liza Lim, Director of Institute of Social Order (ISO), gave her Closing Remarks, followed by the Mass of Creation with Fr. Jojo Fung S.J., Spiritual Advisor of CCARPH.

The Exhibit and Conference showcased the variety of anticipatory steps taken by various groups – from innovative technologies to local government procedures and community-based initiatives – that have capacitated the society at large.

Held last 29 February to 2 March 2024 at the Innovation Wing of the Arete, Ateneo de Manila University, the event was organized by the Coastal Cities at Risk in the Philippines Project (CCARPH), under the Office of the President of the Ateneo de Manila University, and in partnership with the National Resilience Council, together with the Manila Observatory, the Ateneo Innovation Center, the Arete Sandbox and Jungle Gym Playlab.
